Simple Wrapped Letter Christmas Ornaments

I have not shared a lot of Christmas content here on the blog. I shared my decor from December 2020 and my porch decor from the same year. Other than that it’s been some festive outfits, favorite films and teas, and DIY wrapping paper and a fun Christmas sweater tutorial! I get really into the holidays and my posting schedule goes out the window. Not this year!

Today I am starting a fun series of 7 days of DIY Christmas ornaments! First up are these fun personalized letter ornaments! I made one for Jake and I and then one each for Theo and Baxter. They are easy to make and do not require a lot of materials, you might even have them lying around the house. You also don’t have to limit yourself to letters either. I created a star shape as well! These would make terrific homemade Christmas gifts too!

Supplies:

  • Cardboard
  • Yarn or Twine
  • Hot Glue
  • Scissors or Exacto Knife
  • Acrylic Paint – I used White, Green, and Red

Instructions:

  1. Start by cutting out your letters or shapes. I printed some block letters and used them as templates.
  2. Paint each letter a color that coordinates with the color twine you are using. This will help if you’re not wrapping as tightly, the cardboard won’t show through.
  3. Secure the end of your twine or yarn with a bead of hot glue. You can use other glue if you don’t have hot glue, I used it because it dries quicker.
  4. Start wrapping your letter. Wrap as tightly as you can and make sure the twine or yarn is lining up to cover the cardboard. For letters without holes in the middle like my J, S, and T, wrap until the entire letter is covered and secure with hot glue. I recommend adding a dot of hot glue every now and then as you’re wrapping. For letters like B or A or D I cut a long length of twine or yarn and wrap it around a popsicle stick so it doesn’t get tangled and then I wrap the letter by running the popsicle stick through the holes in the letter. If you run out, no biggie, just cut another length of twine or yarn and start from where you left off!
  5. Once your letters are wrapped, take a bit of leftover twine or yarn and attach it to the back of your ornament, and tie a loop in it. I was able to thread mine underneath a layer of the twine that was on the back but you could also secure it with hot glue.
