Finding Your Exercise and Sticking to it
Over the years I have tried a ton of different types of exercise. I have tried everything from swimming, dance aerobics, yoga, Zumba (I have absolutely no rhythm), hiking, at home workout videos, and then there was that time I considered myself to be a runner which was short lived. Something that I have learned along the way is that variety and consistency go hand in hand, at least for me! I know that in order for me to stay consistent with my workouts, I absolutely must have variety.
In fact, if I could give one piece of advice to someone who is trying to find an exercise program that works for them it would be to try a little bit of everything to find what you like! A typical week or workouts for me can range from a spin class one day, swimming another, a kick butt video workout in my garage “gym”, and then some sort of strength training. It never gets boring and another thing I have learned is if you get bored you will not stick to whatever program you’re doing. For me it is all about getting my booty moving.
Now I am not saying that I work out 4 times a week every week. It is a goal I shoot for but I do have my off weeks. Another important thing to remember when you’re first starting out is that off weeks happen. If you miss a workout on Monday don’t let it ruin your whole week. Try and fit one in on Tuesday and Wednesday. I used to have a really bad habit of falling off the proverbial wagon and instead of getting right back on I used to watch it roll away. There is a great quote I found that says “Don’t stumble on something that is behind you.” Don’t let one off day or week derail the progress you have made. You’ve got this!
