DIY Decor: Mini Block Pumpkins
At the beginning of August, I was so ready for fall. It could have been because I just really love fall or, and this is most likely, this year has been such a bummer that I just really needed some joy in my life. Anyways, I was browsing Etsy and decided to look for Halloween decor and I got a spark of inspiration and I knew I needed to hit the craft store and get to work! As a result, today is the first of four posts sharing a how to of the Halloween crafts I created!
First up is these mini block pumpkins! I saw something similar on Etsy and knew I had to try them myself! They are great for Halloween but can also be left out for your fall decorations too!
Here’s what you’ll need!
- Wooden Square Dowel
- Stick from an outdoor plant or tree (for the stem)
- Floral wire
- Orange paint
- Sandpaper
- Hot glue/hot glue gun
- Cut pieces off your wooden dowel. I cut mine in lengths of 3 1/2″, 2 1/2″, and 1 1/2″. I highly recommend using an electric saw for this but I used a hand saw.
- Use the sandpaper and round off the edges.
- Paint the blocks with the paint, I did two coats.
- Use the sandpaper again to distress the sides and edges as you like.
- Break off small pieces of the outdoor stick and then hot glue them to the tops of the blocks as stems.
- Twist the floral wire around the stem to secure. Using a small screwdriver or even kabob stick to curl the ends of the floral wire.
