DIY Halloween: Character Blocks
This has to be my favorite craft project of the bunch. These little character blocks turned out so cute! I hope you give them a try!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Square wooden dowel
- Acrylic paint (black, white, orange, green, purple)
- A piece of stick from the outdoors (for the jack-o-lantern stem)
- Black pipe cleaners
- Paintbrush
- Hot glue/hot glue gun
- Cut 5 2″ pieces from the wooden dowel. To save your arms, I recommend using an electric saw but I used a hand saw for these.
- Paint each block in a different color. I did two coats on these.
For the Vampire, I painted the top black and made brought it down the sides slightly for is widows peak. I did a simple face with little fangs on each side of his mouth.
For the Ghost, all that’s needed is 3 larger circles for the eyes and mouth.
For Frankenstein’s Monster, I painted the top black and then did a cute little squiggly hairline the whole way around. I painted 3 small dots for the eyes and nose, a squiggly line for the mouth, and added some stitches to his forehead.
For the Jack-O-Lantern, I just painted 3 small triangles for the eyes and nose, and a toothy grin for the mouth. I took a small piece of a stick I got from my backyard and hot glued it to the top for the stem!
For the Spider, I used some yellow to paint two large circles for the eyes, I then added two little black dots and used white to paint two small fangs. The cut 4 small pieces of black pipe cleaner, folded the pieces in half, and then bent the top part up to create two little legs each. Then I bent the bottom to create a joint to make it look more like spider legs. Lastly, I hot glued the top part of the legs to the sides of the block. I think another really cute idea for this black block would be a bat, instead of the pipe cleaner legs just cut out small wings from some cardstock and attach to the sides!
