The Herbs We Have Growing This Time of Year

We are here in zone 8b, and this time of the year there really isn’t a lot going on in our garden. One thing we do have though are some perennial herbs that stick around all year long! Herbs are one of my favorite things to grow. They are pretty to look at, they taste great in cooking, and they are easy to grow! If you’re new to gardening, I highly recommend starting with herbs and the ones below in particular!

English Thyme

I have a few different plants in various pots out in my garden and it’s no surprise that a lot of comfort recipes for this time of the year feature this delicious and robust herb.

Winter Savory

I just gave this guy a haircut. It started as a small plant and at the beginning of last year it took off! This isn’t an herb that I have found at the grocery store but to me it tastes very similar to thyme.

Oregano

I’ll be honest, I thought we lost this little plant but it seems to be coming back stronger. Oregano is such a versatile herb. In the summer I use it fresh in tomato salads and this time of year it’s great dried in pretty much any recipe.

Rosemary

This is the king of herbs and we have had this plant since we started gardening the year we bought this house!
