DIY Halloween: Flying Bats

One decoration I saw on Pinterest more than any other was the bat decals in various patterns on mantles, walls, and porches. Basically anywhere you can stick a bat there is a Pinterest pin for it! I looked for the decals on Etsy and Amazon and while the prices aren’t super high for them, I knew that I could do them for cheaper. I have been meaning to do this project for a few years now and I am so glad I finally got around to it! If you recreate this tag me in your photos over on Instagram!

DIY Halloween: Flying Bats

Supplies:

  • Black paper (make sure it’s not as stiff as cardstock but more substantial than regular printer paper)
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Adhesive dots

Steps:

  1. Create a bat stencil by folding a sheet of paper in half and drawing half of your bat. I made two different sizes of bats and used watercolor paper for my stencil. I think it’s best to make templates out of stiffer paper as they hold up better when you are tracing them.
  2. Trace your preferred number of bats on the black paper. I could fit 2 large bats and 4 small bats per sheet.
  3. Cut out your bat shapes.
  4. Apply an adhesive dot to the back of your bat. To make the bat look more 3D I manipulated the paper by wrapping the body part of the bat around my fingers so that when applied to the wall or wherever you’re applying them the wings would stick up a bit.
  5. Apply each bat to your desired surface in your desired pattern!
