DIY Halloween: Aluminum Can Luminaries
One of the best ways to make your home cozy this time of year is to add different kinds of lighting! I love string lights and candles. When I saw liminaries on Pinterest I knew I wanted to create some of my own to add to my decor collection! They look so cute on my mantle and if you try these out I would love to know how they turn out!
DIY Halloween: Aluminum Can Luminaries
Supplies:
- Aluminum Cans
- Sharpie
- Clamp
- Metal File
- Matte Black Spray Paint
- Orange Spray Paint
- Matte Clear Coat Spray Paint
- Drill with small drill bits
- Flameless Candles
Steps:
- Remove the labels and residual glue from the aluminum cans.
- Draw your design on the cans using a sharpie. Note that the best place for the holes you’ll drill is the low point in the ridges of the can.
- Clamp your can to a sturdy table. In my picture I have the can clamped on the bottom but found that it was safer and more secure to clamp at the open end of the can.
- Use the drill and create your design with holes.
- Use the metal file to file the inside of the can where the holes are to make sure it is smooth so you won’t cut yourself if you need to reach in for the candle.
- Spray paint the inside of each can with the orange spray paint. I did 2 coats. Once dry add paper to line the inside of they can.
- Flip the can over and paint the outside with the matte black color. I did two coats.
- Paint one coat of the matte clear coat to each can.
- Add a flameless candle and voila!
