How to Transition Decor from Halloween to Fall
I always get a little sad when I take down my Halloween decorations! This year I put my all into the season and really enjoyed having the decor up for the majority of October! It makes the house feel so cozy and festive!
I love decorating for Christmas but am a purist when it comes to decorating. I wait to decorate the house, listen to music, and watch Christmas movies until after Thanksgiving. It’s not the norm anymore but I like to enjoy the Fall season a little bit more! Luckily, I find it really easy to transition my Halloween decor to Fall and I am sharing just how I do it today!
How to transition decor from Halloween to Fall
Take Halloween all the way down
The first thing that I do is take all of my Halloween decor down. I place everything in one spot and then play my yearly game of Tetris to make sure everything fits in my bins! In fact, I use this time to audit my current collection to make sure that I love everything we have. I make sure all of my Halloween kitchen towels are clean and ready to be put away. I get rid of items that are broken or that I just don’t want to use anymore.
Clean/tidy
Once I have audited my Halloween decor collection and have made it fit (fingers crossed) in my allotted boxes, I like to clean all of the surfaces I used. It’s like a clean slate and allows me to visualize how I want to decorate.
Use decor that works for Halloween and Fall
One of my biggest tips with Halloween decor is to use some decor that will work to transition to Fall. If you couldn’t tell, I love to decorate with pumpkins. I have a small collection of faux ones but I also have so much fun going and picking them out at the nursery. They have so many different types and they add such a whimsical and festive flair to my decor this time of year! This makes it so easy to update my decor in the house and on the porch!
Lay out my Fall decor
Before I start placing decor out, I place it all out on my couch. This helps me see what I have and helps me make a game plan on where I want to place each piece. This is also when I decide whether or not to add to my collection or not!
Focus on certain places in my home
My whole focus this time of year is to make my house as cozy as possible. So, when I am putting up decor, I focus on the areas of our home that we use the most. Mostly, I focus on our family room/kitchen, the downstairs powder room, and our entryway. For Thanksgiving, I add our dining room to that list as well! This way, we can enjoy the decor as much as possible and it definitely gets me into a more festive mood!
