Life Lately: August 2023

“August slipped away into a moment in time.” I took a bit of a break this month to enjoy the last full month of Summer. It was a full-on month with lots of get-togethers with friends and even a trip out of state! Here is life lately in August!

Life Lately: August 2023

Lunch with Lydia

To start off the month, I went down to Tacoma to have lunch with my cousin Lydia. It had been so long since we had last seen each other but it was nice to catch up and have some delicious Thai food!

Seafair on the boat

Since my husband purchased our boat back in June we’ve taken it out for a few short trips but when we realized it was going to be SeaFair we thought it would be fun to take it out to watch the Blue Angels air show. We got out early and had our friend Justin with us. It was fun to see the Blue Angels and to be amongst the other boats during the festivities.

Afternoon tea with friends

I celebrated my friend Brooke’s birthday with a trip to Olive Branch Cafe and Tea Room for some afternoon tea. It was the first time I have been to an afternoon tea and it was fun catching up and sipping tea and snacking on some delicious treats!

Trip to Chicago

Jake had a work trip in Chicago so we decided to extend his trip and I would come out and spend the weekend! It was such a fun trip. We did a night-time walking tour called Gangsters and Ghosts and an architecture riverboat tour. We had a classic Chicago deep-dish pizza and a Chicago dog (I prefer the Chicago dog). We went to the WNDR museum, took a bike ride along the shore of Lake Michigan, and hung out by the pool. On our last night, we went to a fancy steak dinner and it was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and hopefully, it won’t be another 3 years until we can get away on a trip together!

Dinner at a friend’s house for his birthday

We celebrated our friend Kevin’s birthday at his house with some good food and a game of Cards Against Humanity.

Brooke & Robert vow renewal

Our friends Brooke and Robert invited us to celebrate their vow renewal on a sailboat! We took a sunset cruise on the Puget Sound! It was fun to catch up with friends and celebrate Brooke and Robert! I can’t believe they’ve been married for 10 years! Their wedding was the first time I introduced Jake to my group of friends and it was such a full-circle moment!

Boat trip to Blake Island

Jake’s friend Randy was up to visit before he moved up to Anchorage for work and we took a trip to Blake Island Marine State Park which is only accessible by boat! It was a nice afternoon exploring some of the trails and having some lunch at one of the picnic tables.

Bridal shower

To end the month, I was invited to celebrate my friend Tyanna by attending her bridal shower! It was at this really cute event space in Orting, WA called The Oliver. It was just a lovely shower and I loved being able to celebrate the bride-to-be!

In the Garden

Harvesting…

August is when the garden really shines. Harvests have been bountiful this month with tomatoes and beans being the main event! We have also been getting our fair share of summer squash, peppers, and carrots! I harvested the last of the green onions and have really been getting creative in the kitchen with my herbs! The end of the month brought another small bounty of strawberries and I was able to forage some yummy blackberries from around the neighborhood which made a delicious addition to my morning smoothies!

Planting…

Since we will need to redo our garden beds, I haven’t planted any Fall crops except for some lettuce seeds.
