Life Lately: September 2023
September was a spectacular month! We had some beautiful weather and lots of get-togethers with friends! By the time August ends, I am just ready for Fall but I feel like I really embraced the last few weeks of Summer and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Here is what we got up to in September!
Life Lately: September 2023
Dad’s birthday
At the very beginning of the month, we celebrated my dad’s birthday. We had him and my aunt over for a birthday breakfast with homemade biscuits and gravy! I love being able to celebrate my dad by making him his favorite breakfast meal and getting together as a family!
Labor Day weekend block party BBQ
Every year our friends in Puyallup have a block party BBQ with their neighbors on Labor Day weekend and we have been lucky enough to get invited for the last few years! It was nice catching up with friends and eating delicious food!
Labor Day weekend picnic with old friends
Labor Day weekend was full of friend catch-ups this year. On Sunday, I went to a local lake for a get together with an old friend who was in town for the weekend with his kids and he invited a group of us to meet him at the park to catch up!
Outdoor movie night
We had a fun outdoor movie night with our friends and their kids. It was totally DIY, we set up a makeshift screen and my husband programmed out an ancient projector. We had homemade pizza and made smores around our firepit and then watched one of my favorite Summer movies, The Sandlot! It was such a fun evening and easy to put together so I think we may make that something we do every Summer from here on out!
Dinner Al Fresco
We have had such abundance out of the garden this Summer so I decided that I wanted to make my husband a garden to table dinner and serve it out on our patio. It was the perfect evening and the menu consisted of a raw zucchini salad (don’t knock it till you try it…trust me!), roasted carrots, and herby turkey meatballs. I set the table with placemats and candles and we enjoyed a lovely dinner outside!
Camping at Lake Kachess
Jake and I decided to take off on a late Summer camping trip to Eastern Washington. We camped at Lake Kachess campground which was about an hour and 15 minute drive from our house. We brought the boat to launch at the lake but found that the water was too low for that. Instead, we took the boat to Vantage, WA along the Columbia River and had an afternoon river cruise. It was a beautiful day and we were happy to be able to take the boat out!
While we were over there, we were also able to visit my grandpa and take him out to lunch, and on our last night of the trip, the burn ban was lifted and we were able to have a campfire to keep warm. We ate yummy food and played games by lantern light. I got lots of reading done and we went and swam in a mountain stream as well as the alpine lake! It was a wonderful and relaxing trip to mark the end of Summer!
