DIY Halloween Decorations: Ghostly Frames
Every year I seem to gravitate toward some sort of Halloween creature to take over my decor. Last year it was bats and spiders, this year it’s little ghosties. This is the first of many ghost-themed decor DIY projects you’ll see this month but it is the easiest. I love how it turned out and I will definitely be making more so I can do a little ghost frame gallery at some point. Here is how I did it!
DIY Halloween Decorations: Ghostly Frames
Supplies:
- Picture frames (Mine are 4×6 and 5×7 from the Dollar Tree)
- White and Black Acrylic Paint
- Black paint pen
- Clear Coat
- Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue
Steps:
- Take the backing out of the frame. Remove the little metal clips from the frame that are meant to hold the back on.
- This is optional but I found it useful to trace the inside of the frame on a piece of sketch paper and draw your ghosts inside the box. Then, place the glass back on the frame and mark the inside corners with little dots using the paint pen. Now you’ll be able to place the glass over the paper lining up the dots with the corners and you can start painting your ghosts.
- Next, using the sketched ghosts as a template, paint the ghosts on the glass with white acrylic paint. I did 3 coats and I found that if you don’t wait for the paint to dry completely between coats, it can get streaky.
- Using the black paint, add your ghost’s eyes and mouth if you desire.
- Once the paint is dry, use the paint pen to outline your ghosts. This is optional but I feel like it makes them pop and allows me to add the detail to the bottoms of the ghost sheets more precisely.
- You should be able to rub off the little corner dots and then use a clear coat to spray the glass.
- Lastly, once the clear coat is dry, use the hot glue gun to attach the glass to the frame.
