DIY Halloween Decor: Book Page Garland

I have shared a few garlands here on the blog over the years. They are so fun to make and this is the first of two that I’ll be sharing this month! The nice thing about garlands too is that they are so easy to store which for me is *chef’s kiss*. If you saw my most recent Decorate with me video over on YouTube, you’ll know that I am definitely going to need an additional bin for my Halloween decor this year. To clarify, it’s not that I keep buying decorations…I keep on making more! It’s a good problem to have!

The idea for this project came from Pinterest, I think the best ideas come from there! I love the look of a simple ghost cut out from the page of a book.

DIY Halloween Decorations: Book Page Garland

Supplies:

  • Book pages
  • Twine
  • 1″ clothespins
  • Hot Glue & Hot Glue Gun (Optional)

Steps:

  1. I started by sketching the shape of the ghost. I used the pages of the book as a guide so I didn’t make it too big or too small. Then cut it out to use as a stencil.
  2. Then I traced the stencil on 9 pages of the book and cut them out.
  3. Using a permanent marker, I drew the ghost faces on each little ghostie. You could also cut out the eyes but I wanted to keep this super simple.
  4. I used the length of my fireplace mantle to measure out my twine. Then I matched up the ends to find the middle point. On the middle point, I clipped the first ghost in place.
  5. From there, I measured about 4 inches on both sides of the twine to place the next ghosts. I repeated this until they were all attached to the twine! The distance between the ghosts is up to you. I wanted them a bit closer for this garland.
