Easy Festive Halloween Pet Bandanas

If you know me or have been following me for a while, you know how much I love my cats. I feature pictures of them in every “Life Lately” post. Baxter is our 12-year-old fluffy, orange boy, and Theo is our 1-year-old kitten. They are completely rambunctious and crazy but we love them and are so happy we brought Theo home last year!

In years past, I have bought some really cute “costumes” for them. They are little headpieces and to be honest, Baxter and Theo aren’t as into Spooky Season as I am and they weren’t huge fans of them. So this year, I wanted to make them something that they wouldn’t be bothered to wear! Continue reading to see how I made these adorable collar bandanas!

Supplies:

  • 1/4 of a yard of fabric of your choice (this will make more than one bandana)
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron
  • Your pet’s collar
  • Scissors
  • Pins

Steps:

I got my pattern from a website called Karma & Kismet. See the bottom of this post for the PDF file! I used the smallest pattern for my cats but you can adjust according to your pet’s collar. Cut out the pattern.

Fold fabric with wrong sides together. Place the long side of the pattern on the fold of the fabric and pin it in place. Then, cut around the pattern.

Using an iron press each edge up 1/4 of an inch. You can pin it up if that makes it easier. Then, you’ll sew the hem. I used a zig-zag stitch but you can use a straight stitch if you prefer.

Now it’s time to create the sleeve for the collar. Lay your pet’s collar across the top of the fabric and fold the top over the collar. Pin along the collar making sure you leave enough space to easily pull the collar out of the sleeve you are creating.

Remove the collar and sew the sleeve in place. I used my zig zag as a guide when sewing. Guide the collar back through the sleeve and try it on your fur baby! My cats had to get used to them but since it’s on their collar that didn’t take long. Also, if you don’t have a sewing machine, you could hand sew this, I wouldn’t recommend using fabric glue or hot glue because they are less durable.
