Easy DIY Decoupage Christmas Ornaments

For the last two days of 7 days of DIY Christmas ornaments, I want to share ways that you can upcycle ornaments that you already have! For ease, I am using these old plastic ornaments that we have had for years. They have come in handy as we have a curious kitten in the house who is obsessed with the Christmas trees and their ornaments. These are unbreakable which gives me peace of mind when he is left alone downstairs while we’re sleeping.

Decorating for the holidays does not need to be expensive. Upcycling old ornaments is the best way to save some moolah on decorations this holiday season! There are so many different ways to upcycle them and the two ways I am going to share with you could not be easier! I love the way these turned out and I hope you enjoy making them as much as I did!

Easy DIY Decoupage Christmas Ornaments

Supplies:

  • Old Christmas ornament
  • Wrapping paper, tissue paper, book pages (any flexible paper you have)
  • Mod Podge (Matte)
  • Paintbrush
  • Twine

Instructions:

  1. Start by cutting your wrapping paper into small squares. I cut mine into around 1-inch squares.
  2. Brush some Mod Podge onto a small section of your ornament and lay down your first square of paper. Then, brush more Mod Podge over the square of paper to adhere it to the ornament. Repeat this step until the entire ornament is covered. The paper squares are likely not going to be laying down perfectly flat so go back before the Mod Podge has dried press down any bits that are sticking up and brush over with additional Mod Podge.
  3. Set the ornament so that the mod podge can dry. I used some shot glasses.
  4. Attach twine through the top of the ornament for the hanger and decorate your tree!
