Life Lately: January 2024
January feels like the longest month of the year. It is a cold, wet, and grey month and hibernating seems to be the only thing I want to do. It wasn’t the most eventful month but that isn’t surprising. But, I did put a dent in my garden planning for the year which excites me more than anything! Here’s what we got up to in January!
Life Lately: January 2024
Video game nights with my brother and his friend
It’s becoming a fun little activity having my brother and his friend Amanda over to play video games with us. We did it twice this month and sometimes it’s so fun to laugh and play MarioKart and MarioParty!
Helping Dad out with his new shed
My dad had a new shed built at his place so my brother and I went to help move shelving and bins out of a spare room and into his shed. We also helped remove gravel from the back of his truck and take a load to the Goodwill! My dad, brother, and I have not spent a ton of time together just the three of us so we went out to lunch together too. It was nice catching up and I hope we can do something together like that again soon!
Garden planning!
I have been in full-on garden planning mode. It is the only thing that has kept my excitement this month. I have picked everything out that we’re growing and you can check that list out here. I will be starting my first seeds this Saturday and am really excited to see how much abundance I can cultivate this year!
Jake’s friend Randy stayed for a few days
Jake’s friend came and stayed with us for a few days before he had to return home to Anchorage. It was nice to see him and catch up!
Video call with Bri & Emily
It had been a while since we had a video call but it was much needed! We spoke for 4 1/2 hours and I just loved getting to catch up with them!
Furniture Shopping
Jake and I spent a Sunday a few weeks back to go out shopping for furniture. Specifically, a table for our kitchen, a new chair for the living room, and some rugs for around the house. We didn’t end up getting anything but I think we are starting to zero in on what we like.
Get together with new friends
Last Saturday we got invited over for lunch with an acquaintance we met last Summer. We met through an old co-worker of Jake’s and it was nice to see her and her husband again. The food was delicious and it was a lovely afternoon meeting new people!
Lazy Sunday with friends
Last Sunday, Jake and I went over to our friends Calvin & Vicki’s house for breakfast. Jake and Calvin were going to be brewing beer and I spent the day watching football and reading on their comfy couch! Vicki’s mom was staying there and she made us a delicious veggie stirfry and Jake attempted to make homemade ice cream with the kitchen aid mixer. We ended up having to bring it home and stick it in the freezer but it sure tastes good!
In the Garden…
As I mentioned above, I have been in full-on garden planning mode. I am starting my first seeds this Saturday and have a plan for starting more through April and May! The weather has become unusually warm recently and I think the plants are confused! Our crocus have sprouted and the daffodils in the front have started to come up as well! Spring is on it’s way but we still have a whole other month and a half of Winter to get through.
I had a fun time getting out to feed the birds and checking on the various garden beds. Jake and I picked up some new seeds and some seed-starting essentials so I am ready to go!
