5 Ways to Use Chive Blossom Flowers
Spring in the garden is my favorite time of the year! Everything is coming alive and is green and lush! One of the first things ready in the garden this time of year is chives and soon after chive blossoms! I love edible flowers and chive blossoms are one of my favorites! They are not overly onion-y and they look so pretty when added to any dish! They are a delicious addition to your Spring menu and today I am sharing 5 ways you can use them!
5 Ways to Use Chive Blossom Flowers
Butter
Compound butter is such a treat. You can use it in your cooking and also as a garnish over your meats or melted over some steamed veggies or a potato! Simply bring a stick of butter up to room temp so it is soft and add chive blossoms and mix them in. Shape it into a log and wrap in wax paper. Place in the fridge until you’re ready to use! There are a ton of yummy compound butter recipes out there on the internet. Three of my favorites are from Love and Lemons!
Vinegar
Infused vinegar is relatively new to me. I love the idea of infused vinegar in a homemade dressing and I will be trying my hand at my very own batch of chive blossom vinegar! It’s easy to make and sounds delicious! I will let you know how it goes, look for a recipe coming soon!
Garnish
This is the way I use my chive blossoms most! I love sprinkling chive blossoms over all of my food when I have them. Over my eggs at breakfast, in my sandwich at lunch, and over my entire dinner! They are pretty and add great flavor!
Salads
Adding chive flowers to a salad instantly elevates the salad! I always feel that way when adding edible flowers to my salads! Ever since I watched Jamie Oliver add them to a salad in his Jamie at Home cooking show, I have been obsessed with edible flowers in salads! Give it a try, I promise you won’t regret it!
Cut Flower Bouquet
While chive flowers are a delicious addition to your cooking, they are also beautiful! I love adding them to my cut flower bouquets this time of year. The little purple round pom poms and the delicate white blossoms of the garlic chives are such a fun addition to a bouquet! I think more edible flowers should make their way to your cut flower bouquets this Spring and Summer!
