DIY Decor: Faux Bug Taxidermy

I am not the biggest fan of bugs, but these cute little faux bugs don’t bother me at all! The inspiration for this project came from Pinterest again…I love that website! My decoration aesthetic this time of year is very cutesy and less spooky. These look super high-end, and I love how they look alongside my other decorations. They also could not be easier to make and I hope you give this one a try!

DIY Decor: Faux Bug Taxidermy

Supplies

  • Toy Bugs (I got mine here)
  • Wooden Plaque (I got mine at Michaels but I found some at the Dollar Tree too!)
  • Metallic Gold Spray Paint
  • Matte Black Acrylic Paint or Matte Black Spray Paint
  • Clear Coat Sealer (I used this one from Mod Podge)
  • Hot Glue
  • Picture hanger *optional

Method:

  1. Using the gold spray paint, coat your desired bugs. I did 2 coats. Between coats I painted my wooden plaques with the matte black acrylic paint and did 2 coats on those too.
  2. To prevent scratches, coat the painted bugs with the clear coat sealer. I did 2 coats.
  3. This step is optional…add picture hangers to the back of your wooden plaques.
  4. Using hot glue, attach the bugs to the wooden plaques. If you have a curious kitten like me, hot glue might not be enough to keep these on. I found that a short screw drilled from the back to the front where you twist the bug onto the screw works really well!

I’ve got lots more fun DIY’s coming up this month and I hope you’ll follow along! If you liked this project, I would love it if you shared it with someone you know would like it too! And, if you recreate it, I would love it if you tagged me so I can see your creation! You can check out previous Blogtober postsΒ here.
