DIY Decor: Candy Corn Garland

If you’ve been here for a while, you’ll know that I love a good garland. I’ve made a fair few for Spooky Season and today’s project is the first of two garlands I am sharing with you this month. Last year I made cute little candy corn cones that turned out so adorable and they inspired today’s garland project! I used burlap that I had on hand for this project but I think that felt would be cute too! I hope you try this one and let me know what you think!

DIY Decor: Candy Corn Garland

Supplies:

  • Burlap (I used a runner like this one at Joann’s. Use code TAKE40OFF to get 40% off any regularly priced item now through 11/2/2024!)
  • Acrylic paint in white, orange, and yellow
  • Sponge brush (You can get these at the Dollar Store)
  • Jute Twine (like this one)
  • Hot Glue

Method:

  1. Using a ruler and marker, measure out your triangles on your burlap. The bottom of each of my triangles is 3 3/4″ and then from the bottom to the tip of the triangle it is 5 3/4″. Cut out as many triangles as you want on your garland. I did 9 and I always find that an odd number of garland items works well because you have one that can start in the middle and work your way out when attaching them to your twine.
  2. Next, I traced one of the triangles on the sheet of paper I was going to be painting on and measured out the sections of color and drew lines that reached outside of the triangle so that I could see them when I placed the triangle over my stencil. This helped me mark out each section of color when I was painting. Each section is roughly 1 3/4″ to 2″ wide.
  3. I used the sponge brush to mark the top of each color section and painted all the yellow sections, then the orange sections, and lastly the white sections. It worked best to used a tapping motion like you’re doing a stencil.
  4. Once the triangles are dry, it’s time to attach them to the jute twine. I measured the twine to fit my mantle. I started by hot gluing the first triangle in the middle of the twine. Then I measured 3 inches from each side and attached the next 2 triangles. Repeat until all of the triangles are attached.

I’ve got lots more fun DIY’s coming up this month and I hope you’ll follow along! If you liked this project, I would love it if you shared it with someone you know would like it too! And, if you recreate it, I would love it if you tagged me so I can see your creation! You can check out previous Blogtober postsΒ here.
