DIY Decor: Felt Bat Garland
Today’s DIY project turned out so cute! I’m telling you, I love a good garland. Ever since I did my little bat swarm a few years ago, I have loved using bats to decorate things. My Halloween wreath has had bats on it for the last two years and this year I picked up the cutest bat swarm sweatshirt from Etsy. You could say I’m a little batty for bats! I love the simplicity of this garland and thought it should have pride of place over our kitchen window this year! Check out the details below on how I made it!
DIY Decor: Felt Bat Garland
Supplies:
- Black Felt (I got mine from Joann and chose the stiff felt as opposed to the more flexible kind of felt. The structure helps keep the bats from scrunching up.)
- Pins
- Scissors
- Hole Punch
- Wooden Beads (Dollar Tree, I got the natural wood color and white)
- Jute Twine (Joann’s Here)
- Hot Glue & Hot Glue Gun
Method:
- Measure the length of your twine. This will help you determine how many bats you’ll need.
- Create a stencil for your bat using a piece of paper. I used the same bat stencil from my wreath update. Pin the stencil to the felt and cut out however many bats you need to fill your garland.
- Use the hole punch to add a hole to each wing tip of the bats.
- Slide the first bat into the middle of your twine. Add a dot of hot glue to the back and attach the twine in place.
- I decided to put 3 beads between each bat in alternating colors. String them on each side of the first bat and continue until you have the last bat attached. For the ends of the garland, I decided to add 5 beads instead of 3. To keep the last bead in place I looped the twine back through.
