DIY Decor: Handmade Ghost Coasters
These ghost coasters are a dupe for the ones they are selling at Pottery Barn this season. To be fair, I don’t think that $15 is that steep when you think of the prices for other Halloween decorations they sell. I enjoyed stretching my artistic muscles while painting my little ghosts. You could also mod-podge a little ghost design you printed off on paper too but I like the way the paint looks! I can’t wait to take these out every year!
DIY Decor: Handmade Ghost Coasters
Supplies:
- Thin pieces of wood cut to your desired dimensions. I got my wood from the craft section at the Dollar Tree. It is the 7″ x 3.5″ wood planks. I cut them in half to make a 3.5″ x 3.5″ square.
- Sandpaper
- Stain ( I used antique medium in Nutmeg from Folk Art Here)
- Acrylic paint in Black and White
- Cork sheet (I used a cork tile from a pack of 4)
- Exacto Knife of Scissors
- E6000 or other adhesive (Here)
- Sealer (Mine here)
Method:
- Start by sanding down your wood pieces until they are smooth. I rounded all of the sharp surfaces including the corners.
- Stain the wood and let dry completely. I did 2 coats of the medium.
- Once the stain is dry, paint your ghost designs. I mixed the white and a little black to make grey to add for some dimension. Let them dry completely.
- Add two coats of sealer all over each piece of wood.
- Cut out 4 squares for each piece of wood. You can either cut small pieces just for the corners or cut a square that will cover the entire back.
- Use the adhesive of your choosing and attach the cork to the back of your coaster. Allow to dry completely. E6000 takes up to 48 hours to cure.
