DIY Customized Trick-Or-Treat Totes

Jake and I don’t have children yet but we are close with people who do and we love their kids! I like to go all out decorating for the holidays and when I was planning Blogtober I got the brilliant idea to customize some trick-or-treat totes for our friend’s kids so that they could use them year after year! I decided on a cute witch for Clara and a Jack-O-Lantern for Jay and I love the way these turned out! I could have easily used my sewing machine or hand sewing to attach the decorations but for ease and time, I decided to put my trusty glue gun to use (it gets its most use this time of year)! My friend’s kids love them which brings such a smile to my face! Check out how I made these below!

DIY Customized Trick-Or-Treat Totes

Supplies:

  • Blank totes: Joann (Here)
  • Felt or fabric
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Any decor you have on hand…this is the perfect time to get creative!
  • Hot glue & hot glue gun

Method:

  1. Decide on a design. I found this little felt witch at the Dollar Tree and took the face apart because I wanted the nose to stand out and I wanted to add hair. So I traced the outline of the face on a lighter piece of green felt. I then cut it out and hot glued the face back together.
  2. For the hair, I used pipe cleaners and glued them around the face. Once those were dry, I glued the hat back on the top of the head.
  3. I then crinkled the hair to give it more texture.
  4. For the Jack-O-Lantern, I drew my own template for the pumpkin shape. I cut it out on some orange felt and hot-glued the pumpkin to the tote. To make the pumpkin stand out more I decided to line it with the black pipe cleaners.
  5. Next, I cut out the eyes and mouth from a stiffer piece of black felt. Then I hot-glued them onto my pumpkin.
  6. I used green pipe cleaners for the tendrils to add some dimension and created a custom stem that I hot glued over the tendrils to help keep them in place!

I’ve got one last DIY coming up this month and I hope you’ll follow along! If you liked this project, I would love it if you shared it with someone you know would like it too! And, if you recreate it, I would love it if you tagged me so I can see your creation! You can check out previous Blogtober postsΒ here.

Let’s be friends!
