How to Paint Candles for Your Christmas Table
I’ve seen these cute painted candles all over the internet recently. I love finding new festive ideas to add to my holiday tablescape when I can! There are lots of fun festive ideas to spruce up some plain taper candles. These taper candles are neat because they are hexagonal, making it easy to paint while the candle was lying on my table. They are actually from Joann’s Fall candle collection, and they were on sale for 50% off! I used acrylic paint that I had on hand but recommend a looser consistency paint that will be easier to spread with your paintbrush. I got my design ideas from Pinterest and loved spending the afternoon painting my candles!
How to Paint Candles for Your Christmas Table
Supplies:
- Taper Candles (I recommend these from Joanns but you could buy tapered candles from anywhere they sell candles!)
- Acrylic Paint
- Small detail paintbrushes
Method:
- Decide on your designs. Pinterest has so many fun and festive ideas and I highly recommend checking it out!
- Start painting your designs. For my candy canes, I started by painting a red base in a candy cane shape. I recommend not using a lot of paint. If you want to put a second coat on you can but the small amount of paint allows it to dry quicker. Once the red was dry, I used my small detail paintbrush to paint the white stripes on. I painted the candy canes on every other side of the candle and then for the blank sides, I used a small embossing tool to add red dots in a draped pattern down to the bottom.
- For my little trees, I started by painting the trees in layers using little strokes in a downward swooping pattern. Each tree is 4 little swooping layers. Once the green is dry, I add the brown trunk to each tree. Lastly, I used the same embossing tool and added red baubles to each tree. I considered adding white to the tips of the trees so it would look like they were covered in snow but decided that the baubles felt more festive!
You could create candles like these for every holiday! They are such a festive touch and are fun to make as well!
