Life Lately: March 2025
March has gone by so quickly! I am so happy that Spring is here and that the gardening season is well and truly underway! we’ve had so much rain here in the Pacific Northwest this month but now that it’s Spring, I don’t mind so much! I’ve been able to get some work done out in the garden with much more to come in the next few months! March had its ups and downs but overall it was a good month and I am looking forward to April! Here is what we got up to in March!

Life Lately: March 2025
Friends in town!
Early in March, we had our friends Amy and Aaron come to town and stay in the guest room! They were in town for Amy’s mom’s birthday. We had a delicious brunch at a restaurant in Tacoma called Hob Nob and then explored downtown Tacoma and Ruston Way. We went out to dinner for Amy’s mom’s birthday and ended the evening with some Cold Stone ice cream!
Celebrating my mom’s birthday
My mom’s birthday is the 16th of March, and we took her out to brunch at IHOP near our house. My brother was there and we had a great time chatting and celebrating our mom! That evening, I made a delicious vegetarian lasagna and had my mom and brother over for dinner!
Total Lunar eclipse
We were able to experience the total lunar eclipse this month. We brought out binoculars and beverages out onto our patio and watched the entire event! It was such a cool thing to witness from our own backyard!

Visiting my grandpa
Sadly, my grandpa has been diagnosed with fatal cancer and was given only weeks to live at the beginning of March. My dad, brother, and I took a trip over the mountains to go and see him. His partner was a nurse and she is taking care of him with the help of hospice at home. I am so grateful for her. Grandpa was in good spirits and still sounds relatively normal on the phone now but I know his condition has worsened since we saw him earlier in the month. I am grateful for that trip to see him and that I can still talk with him on the phone. It is heartbreaking, and I will miss him so much.

A night out in Seattle
We went out for a night in Seattle for a friend’s birthday. We spent most of the night at a Chinese restaurant that had karaoke in their bar. We shared some crab rangoon and a chicken with snow peas dish. Had a few beverages and sang a few songs. It was such a fun evening!
Bowling night
Our friend Kevin, who has been out of town since December, is home and we decided to go out for dinner and then go bowling! We had a delicious dinner at Buho in White Center. It is a hip Mexican-style restaurant and bar. I had some grilled shrimp tacos and we shared a chorizo queso dip! Afterward, we went down to Kent Bowl and bowled a few games. We hadn’t been bowling for years and it was so nice catching up with Kevin!
In the Garden…
This month, I got a new seed starting grow light set up that is up in one of our spare rooms to keep my cat Theo from destroying my little seedlings! I started so many seeds this month. I direct sowed radishes, carrots, chamomile, and bunching onion out in the garden. Then, indoors, I have started cilantro, dill, tarragon, marigolds, zinnia, peppers, tomatoes, spinach, several types of lettuce, dino kale, mustard, and leeks.
I amended my beds with steer grow and good quality compost. We had some beautifully warm weather this last week but I think it shocked my cabbage and broccoli into going to seed. I have transplanted my dino kale, mustard, leeks, fennel, and sweet peas out into my bed that’s over my the fence. Everything is hanging on and the greens are starting to grow more.
Yesterday, I was thinning some butter crunch lettuce so I pricked some little seedlings out and placed them directly in the garden beds. We’ll see how they do but we should have a ton of lettuce here soon! My Swiss chard and the kale I planted in Fall are doing great, I will be harvesting my first kale of the season this coming week!
