DIY Decor: Easy Pumpkin Sign

Over the years, I have collected many signs for both my Halloween and Christmas decoration collections. I’ve always avoided making them because I don’t have a cricket machine to do nice lettering but this year, I really wanted to try stenciling a saying on a cute sign for our front porch! It worked so great, especially when I did an outline for the letters. The black outline really made the white lettering pop on the sign. This turned out better than I thought it would, and I will definitely be making more signs like this in the future!

DIY Decor: Easy Pumpkin Sign

Supplies:

  • 12″ Wooden pumpkin shapes (Here)
  • Letter Stencils 1.5″ (Here)
  • White, Orange, Brown acrylic paint
  • Stencil brush (I got some sponge “brushes” from Dollar Tree which worked great!)
  • Black Sharpie
  • Wired Twine or regular twine to make the hanger

Method:

  1. Paint your pumpkin! I used a dry brushing technique to add dimension to the pumpkin. Allow to dry completely.
  2. Measure to the middle and lightly draw lines with a pencil. This will be your guide for when you stencil the letters.
  3. Starting with the middle letter, begin stenciling your saying. I chose “Trick or Treat,” but you can pick whatever you want! Take care to try and space your letters equidistant apart. Allow to dry completely before moving on to the next step. I also wanted to add a bit of interest, so I free-handed the “or.”
  4. Using a sharpie, outline your letters.
  5. Add your twine through the holes to create the hanger!
