DIY Decor: A Giant Spider Web for the Yard
There is a house in our neighborhood that has a giant spider web that they set up every year. I have always wanted one for our front yard, so last year, I made one! I was surprised how simple it was, and knew that I needed to share this project on Blogtober this year! The cool thing about creating your own giant spider web is that it doesn’t have to look perfect; in fact, I think the imperfection makes it look more real! It’s certainly a show stopper as far as our yard decorations go, and I can’t wait to get it all lit up! Read on to see how I made it!
DIY Decor: A Giant Spider Web for the Yard
Supplies:
- At least 2 rolls of poly cord (I got mine at Fred Meyer in the camping section but you can get it Here)
- Tent Stakes (Here)
- Scissors
- Mallet
- Giant Spider (Here)
- Black floral wire (Similar Here)

Method:
- Start by getting the lengths for the poly cord from the tree down to the ground. I do this by throwing the loose end over the branch I am using and pull each side taut to the ground. Then I snip that line loose and do the same to create a total of 4 lines that come down from the tree.

- Then, I gut the two lines in half, making 4 pieces. I then knot those pieces together on one end.

- I then tie the knotted end up into the tree.

- Next, I take one of the lines and pull it taut. Then I attach a tent stake to it and hammer it into the ground with a mallet, keeping the line as taut as possible. I make sure to have some excess at the ends of the lines in case I need to adjust later. Repeat for the other vertical lines.

- Now you can start on the horizontal lines of your web. Start at the top, tie a piece of the poly cord to one of the outside lines. Then tie it to the next line and the next across the 4 vertical lines. Repeat all the way down the web, trying to keep the horizontal lines as taut as possible between each of the vertical lines.

- Now it’s time to add our spider! Wrap the floral wire around the smallest part of the spider body and twist to secure. Then let out a bit of excess wire and twist it around one of the line connection points to secure the spider onto the web. I then play with the legs and adjust them. You could also add a smaller spider at the bottom!

Let’s be friends!
