Last Minute Costume Idea: A Lumberjack

My dad worked for the U.S. Forest Service when he was just out of high school until a couple of years after I was born. He could tell you every place in the mountains of the Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest where he took crews to plant new trees. He loved the outdoors, and this costume is a kind of homage to him and my great-grandpa, who was actually a logger in his younger years. It also features a hat that he had from a forest fire he helped fight in 1994.

Last Minute Costume Idea: A Lumberjack

The only thing I purchased for this costume was the flannel shirt that I thrifted earlier this year from Value Village. I was going for an oversized look, so I purchased it from the men’s section. I paired it with my favorite pair of jeans and my hiking boots. The suspenders are my husband’s, and they add the final touch, making the look more like a lumberjack than just a regularly styled outfit. The hat finishes the look and adds such a special, sentimental touch.
