Setting Small Weekly Goals
I love making lists. There is something comforting and relaxing about the act of planning things. I find making goal lists to be one of the most therapeutic activities ever. This is especially true when I find myself off track and can’t seem to find the motivation to get back on it. Something that I have found especially helpful is setting 2-3 weekly goals. I get a cup of tea, light a candle, and sit down and set my intention for the week ahead. I prefer to do this on Sundays but as of late it’s been happening closer to Monday evening. My goals range from health and fitness goals…

Forgiveness
Have you ever let your anger at someone consume your life until you’re exhausted and miserable? How about holding onto that anger for months or god forbid years? I know first hand how holding onto that anger for an extended period can feel. Let me tell you…it doesn’t feel good. It feels like a ton of bricks on your chest. It’s that heavy baggage that weighs on you so much overtime that it can affect other relationships you have in your life. It’s that cloud that follows you around just to rain on your parade and any sign of joy or happiness. So why the heck do we hold onto…

Authenticity on Social Media
Recently I saw a photo on Facebook of a sign that said “May your life be as awesome as you pretend it is on Facebook.” This got me thinking a lot about authenticity across all platforms of social media. I use my blog and social media platforms to promote a positive message. With all the negativity going on in the world and online, I think it’s a breath of fresh air to see people positing positive things. I am far from perfect but I’m not one to air my dirty laundry online for all to see and I don’t ever intend to start. Does this make me inauthentic or fake?…

My Favorite Vegetarian Recipes
For a while now I have opted to make at least one day in my week completely meatless. I also prefer to have at least one meal a day everyday be vegan or vegetarian. This has not only helped my vegetable intake but it has also made me feel a lot better about the food that I am fueling my body with. Netflix has a ton of documentaries discussing the benefits of a completely plant based diet and I think I’ve watched every single one. The more I read and the more I watch it becomes even more clear to me that reducing or eliminating animal proteins from your diet…

5 Tips For Starting A Healthy Lifestyle
Sometimes the idea of losing weight or making the transition to a healthier lifestyle can feel really overwhelming. I get it. There is tons of information to sift through and most of it contradicts the others. They always say to try things out until you find something that works for you but where on earth should you start?! One thing that I tell myself when I start to get that overwhelming feeling is that I don’t have make every change I want to make all at once and also that the changes I want to make don’t need to be huge. Sometimes, the simple and small changes are the ones…

How To Drink More Water
The health and fitness industry is full of conflicting information but one of the things that everyone seems to agree on is that keeping your body hydrated is key when reaching your health and fitness goals. I have struggled a lot with drinking the proper amount of water. I have gotten to the point where my body actually craves water at times and I know at that point you’ve probably been dehydrated for quite a while. Adult human bodies are made up of around 60% water give or take. Keeping your body hydrated is essential for normal body function and can also give you great benefits that you may have not…

Pantry Staples
There are certain things that we always have in our pantry. They are go to items or items that we use quite often. When I get around to meal planning I always know that we have these things or it’s something we need to pick up and a lot of it lasts longer than the week. What are your pantry staples? Muesli- This is actually a relatively new addition to our pantry staples but I love it. I eat it with milk, or over some yogurt with fresh berries. Nuts, seeds, and dried fruits- These make great snacks and are also great yogurt toppings. The nuts we usually get are…

Meal Planning for Beginners from a Beginner
I’m not good at meal planning consistently. I will plan one week and then totally drop the ball and plan absolutely nothing for the next week. Sometimes I feel like it’s easier to go to the grocery store and purchase things that we eat on a regular basis and throw them together during the week. While that is the easier option it can get really repetitive and if you get bored with what you are eating at home you are more likely to get takeout or opt for a less healthy option. It motivates me to eat better when I know that I have all the ingredients in my kitchen…

The Beauty of Unplugging
Last week I posted about five things I am trying to do in the evenings and I touched a little bit on unplugging at 9pm in the evenings. I have been trying this out for a little while now and when I think about how beneficial it has been for me I decided it was good enough to share on the blog! Defining what it means to unplug may be different for different people. To me, unplugging not only means powering down my electronics it means giving myself a break from social media. I don’t know about you but I have caught myself scrolling for hours and checking my Facebook…

Our Garden 2017
Some of my fondest memories as a kid were spent out in the backyard helping my dad with the garden during the spring and summer months. My dad has quite the green thumb and his gardens have gotten better and better each year. Since I was young I have always dreamed about growing my own vegetables when I was lucky enough to have my own house. Years later and here we are. I am still learning a lot about gardening and we have two small raised beds and I think it’s a great place to start. I have also branched out to growing things in pots as well. To me,…
