Why You Don’t Need A New You This Year

We’ve all seen the slogan “New Year, New You” all over the internet. The sentiment sounds nice, encouraging you to overhaul your entire life overnight in order to be a success in the new year. This is your new fresh start and changing yourself is the only way. But, what was wrong with the you on December 31st? Yeah okay so maybe you overindulged on the sweets these last few weeks or had more than one holiday dinner where you ate to the point of needing to wear stretchy pants to feel comfortable or breathe. Maybe you haven’t eaten β€œhealthy” since Thanksgiving or beyond that. Maybe you had a few…

How to Create Your Own Self Care Routine

It should come as no surprise by now that self-care is really important to me. It is something that I have focused a lot of my attention on over the last year and something that I think is vital to your well-being. The great thing about self-care is that it is completely different for every person and each routine is totally unique to their interests and needs. One person may love to go for long runs a few times a week and another may like to take short walks in the evening after dinner. Whatever it is, making sure we schedule time for ourselves during the week should be a…

    A New Approach

A few weeks ago I read a wonderful book called The Goddess Revolution by Mel Wells. The book discusses getting out of the diet culture mindset and learning to listen to your body and get in tune with what it really needs. It gives you the tools you need to end the war you are in with your body to become comfortable in your own skin and embrace a fulfilling life free from rules, fad diets, and negative feelings regarding food, your weight, and your body. After finishing the book I realized how long I have based much of my happiness and self worth on the size of my body…

Little Things To Do For Yourself Everyday

One of my areas of focus this year is self care. Self care is something that I constantly put on the back burner in my own life but in my quest to feel good about myself and be comfortable in my body, developing a self care practice is key. Making small changes can be so beneficial to your mental health and how you view your place in this crazy world. Small changes can make a big difference in your everyday life. Being able to recognize the little things that make you feel fabulous and then trying to implement them in a daily routine can really help motivate you and change…

    Style Your Mind Workbook

Back in March when I went a little (and by little I mean a lot) crazy on Amazon buying books, one of them was this really amazing workbook called Style Your Mind. I decided to start it last week as part of my personal development time that I like to set aside a few times a week and I instantly fell in love. To begin, you write out your vision of what you’d like your life to look like. It’s not like getting super specific but rather a bigger picture. I looked into what my ideal life would look like and wrote what was in my heart and I am…

    My Little Black Dress

This post is probably not going to be what you think. I bought this dress circa 2006-2007. I knew at the time it probably wouldn’t fit me but I loved it and had to have it from the Forever 21 website. When it came I tried it on and low and behold it did not fit. Even though I had prepared myself for it not to fit, I still was disappointed. The sad thing was I was not disappointed that it didn’t fit me but that I didn’t fit in the dress. That is a tiny distinction but it exposed a HUGE insecurity. Instead of returning the dress and getting…
