My Morning Routine: Creating Intention
My favorite time of day is the morning. It’s quiet before the rush of the day. Since I left corporate back in July, I have been very intentional when it comes to my mornings. After dealing with severe burnout and anxiety I wanted to create a good foundation for my day. A morning routine that would combat any anxiety I was feeling and I think that I have done just that!
My Morning Routine
One thing that I have had to work on though is giving myself grace when I don’t stick to this routine perfectly. Trying to be perfect at anything is an impossible task. The anxiety alone that I got from trying to be was counterproductive to what I was trying to accomplish! I wrote about my struggle with perfectionism back in 2020 but it is still something I must be mindful of!
Hydrate
I start my morning by putting my walking clothes on first thing. This is usually between 7:30-8:00 am. My leggings from Old Navy are the best and I love a good crew neck sweatshirt, especially on these crisp Fall mornings. Baxter and Theo, my cute fur babies, greet me and remind me that it is time for their breakfast! Since Theo is still a kitten I have to feed them separately, so while I wait for him to finish eating I get my water bottle filled and start to hydrate.
Take a Walk
I head out on my walk after the cats are fed. My neighborhood has a nice walking route that I stick to. Walking has been so therapeutic for me. I say “Good Morning” on Instagram if you’d like to follow me over there for some walking motivation. My headphones are always in and I will either listen to a podcast or audiobook. I just finished Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie and have started Ladie’s Night by Mary Kay Andrews.
Tea & Breakfast
When I return from the walk I get started on breakfast. Recently, I have been loving oatmeal for breakfast! I put on the kettle for some hot water for my tea and try and finish the water bottle that I started earlier. One of the ways I combat my anxiety in the morning is to hydrate before I caffeinate. The tea I have been drinking recently is this Pumpkin Spice Chai from Twinnings. It is delicious! I sit down at our kitchen table for breakfast and usually have whatever I am listening to on while I eat.
Journal
Once I am finished eating, I like to take some time to journal. This helps me clear my head and work through any uncomfortable feelings I may be having. I also use this time to write down what I am grateful for. I like to wrap things up around 9:00-9:30 am. At this time, I head upstairs to shower and get ready for the day.
