DIY Halloween Decorations: Mummy Column

Our porch isn’t very big but every year I love to add as many festive touches as I can. I want the trick-or-treaters to know that our house has candy to give out! I usually stick to lights, pumpkins, and my usual Halloween signs but this year I wanted to mix it up. Again, this idea came from Pinterest where they used streamers but I came across this cloth at Michaels and knew that’s what I wanted to use! Here’s how I created my Mummy porch column!

DIY Halloween Decorations: Mummy Porch Column

Supplies:

Mummy Mesh
Craft Foam (The black foam I used had an adhesive backing)
Push Pins
Scissors

Steps:

I started by making the eyes. I used the lid of a Bath & Body Works 3-wick candle for the stencil for the large part of the eye. I made sure that it would be the right size for my column. I originally thought one of our cereal bowls would work but it turned out to be too large. So, depending on how wide your column is, use something round to create a large circle for the eye. I used green craft foam for this. Next, I used a small cup for the pupils of the eyes. Removing the cover from the adhesive back, I attached the black circle in the middle of the green circle to create two eyes.
Using a push pin to secure the mesh to the column, I began wrapping our porch column. The push pin will not be needed at the bottom once you have wrapped it around. Once I reached the top of the column, I secured it with a push pin and by folding the loose ends of the mesh under the layer below.
Next, I created a tape look using painter’s tape and secured the eyes to the column where I wanted them. I tucked the top of the eyes under one of the layers of mesh.
Lastly, I cut a piece of mesh long enough to wrap around the column once and tie it in the back, making sure I secure the bottom of the eyeballs with the mesh piece.
