How to Incorporate Festive Touches into Your Daily Wardrobe

To me, dressing festively is a great way to add a little bit of magic to your everyday! Whether it’s a fun accessory, a graphic tee, or a sweater, dressing in an outfit inspired by this time of year brings a smile to my face. If you’ve been here for any amount of time, you know how much I love a festive outfit! My collection of Spooky Season pieces has grown quite a bit over the years and I have really loved sharing my outfits with you here on the blog and even over on TikTok!

In sharing these outfits, I want to inspire you to bring the same magic to your every day too! You may be thinking, “I don’t have the funds for this,” or “It’s almost the end of October maybe I’ll try next year,” or “I can’t be overly Halloween in the office.” Not to worry! In this post, I am going to share my tips and tricks on curating a spooky season wardrobe that can work for work or play, one that won’t break your bank (you probably have stuff in your wardrobe now!), and some of my favorite places to shop for and source spooky season pieces!

It should also be noted that while this post is spooky season-themed, I follow the same tips and tricks for dressing festive during Christmas as well!

How to Incorporate Festive Touches into Your Daily Wardrobe

Let’s start with color!

When I say “festive touches” in this post, I don’t necessarily mean a sweater with a ghost on it. While an outwardly festive piece is fun, so can creating a festive outfit with color. Why not try a monochromatic look for the office? I shared this Weekday wardrobe a few years ago during October. It’s the perfect outfit for an office environment but the all-black look feels like the perfect amount of festive to me!

The best part is you probably already have a black skirt or trousers and a black shirt in your wardrobe. Dressing in a festive way does not have to break the bank, it is easy to create a look using the basics in your own wardrobe!

I know orange isn’t for everyone but even burnt orange is a great option for a festive feel. Yellow ochre is in the same vein. Black and white combinations are great too! Even a little animal print can become festive! If you think outside the box a little, you might be surprised at how festive you can make your existing wardrobe!

Accessorize!

If you are starting to dip your foot into buying festive pieces, my suggestion would be to start with accessories! For the most part, they are less expensive and less in your face than say a sequin jack-o-lantern skirt. My favorite accessory for this time of year is a pair of fun earrings and boy do I have a ton! I have picked mine up all sorts of places and they bring a smile to my face every year I bring them out!

There are also other ways to accessorize this time of year! I’ve seen cute headbands and hair barrettes all over. Last year I made this googly eye headband with a basic black headband, come googly eyes, felt, and hot glue! I also have a lovely spider broach that came with a top from Unique Vintage. Accessories like these are fun and add a little festive flair to your outfit without being so OTT!

Festive pieces!

It has been so fun adding festive sweaters and t-shirts to my wardrobe these last few years! When I am deciding on what I want to add, I take inspiration from festive movies that I like. I take inspiration from vintage design

I also like to get pieces that can be styled in different ways so I can get more wear out of them. To do this, I don’t by just buy sweaters or just graphic tees. Pieces that can be styled on their own or in combination with other pieces are a great way to make your dollars go further. Pieces like that make it easier for you to create different outfits throughout the season. This helps fight against that dreaded “I have nothing to wear” thought that can sneak up on us!

Mostly, I buy pieces I know I will wear. I like to wear sweaters and sweatshirts most this time of year so most of my pieces are those. My aesthetic is cutesy and traditional, I steer clear of scary or horror-themed pieces. I don’t love tight-fitting clothing either so for the most part I tend to steer clear of those types of pieces as well.
