Some Goals for the Rest of 2020
It’s safe to say that 2020 has not turned out the way anyone imagined. It’s amazing how my motivation has ebbed and flowed throughout these months of lockdown but I decided last month that I really want to pull myself out of the fog and accomplish a few things throughout the rest of the year. Here are a few goals that I have for the rest of 2020, share one of your goals in the comments below so we can work towards them together! 1. Practice Daily Gratitude The women I follow who I find most inspiring rave about the mental health benefits of having a daily gratitude practice. I…

Hi Again!
Thanks for stopping by! Since my consistency in posting has been lack luster at best, I thought it would be a good time to reintroduce myself for any readers that may come across my little corner of the internet! Soooooo, Hi! My name is Sam, the face behind Learning to Bloom. I am a 30-something lifestyle blogger, living near Seattle, WA with my husband Jake and our fluffy orange fur baby Baxter both of whom cameo over on my Instagram quite frequently! Iβve been blogging for about 3 years now and love to write about all sorts of topics including home dΓ©cor, fashion, food, self-care, and body acceptance. To get…

5 Things in January
January officially feels like the longest month of the ENTIRE year. As I am posting this there is still 2 days left in the month! Personally, the pace of life has slowed down this month which was needed because work has been crazy busy and I also have been battling a cold in the last week but this month has had so many great things for me to look back on and I am excited to share them today! Epic Star Wars Marathon Jake and I started the year off by watching all the Star Wars films. Starting with the original episodes 4-6, then 1-3 and finally we watched 7…

Why You Don’t Need A New You This Year
We’ve all seen the slogan “New Year, New You” all over the internet. The sentiment sounds nice, encouraging you to overhaul your entire life overnight in order to be a success in the new year. This is your new fresh start and changing yourself is the only way. But, what was wrong with the you on December 31st? Yeah okay so maybe you overindulged on the sweets these last few weeks or had more than one holiday dinner where you ate to the point of needing to wear stretchy pants to feel comfortable or breathe. Maybe you havenβt eaten βhealthyβ since Thanksgiving or beyond that. Maybe you had a few…

5 Things in December & 2019 Reflections
Here we are again at the end of another year. The end of a decade and the very beginning of another. December, like every other month this whole year it seems, has flown by. This is my favorite time of the year. The coziness levels are high (I’m actually writing this curled up on the couch with a cup of tea while watching a Christmas movie), the decorations are on point, and the festive atmosphere is so comforting. Here are the things that I have loved in the month of December! Watching Christmas Movies In the evenings on the run-up to Christmas in December, you can find me cozy on…

5 Things In November
December is finally here and what better way to kick off the month than recapping what we got up to and what I’ve been loving in the month of November?! Our NYC Trip At the beginning of the month, we took off back East to visit The Big Apple! It was both our first time visiting the city and we both LOVED every minute of the trip! We stayed in Mid-town Manhattan which was probably the best place to stay as it was in the centralized location where we could get to all the attractions we wanted to see. We also utilized the subway quite a bit which made getting…

Currently Reading
I have loved reading since I was very young. I remember sitting with my dad and my brother every night reading through our extensive collection of Sesame Street and Berenstain Bears books as well as a pile of the childrens books with the golden spines. As we got older we moved onto chapter books, our favorites were Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little. It is such a vivid memory I have that I can’t remember when I ever stopped reading. It could have been in junior high when we started having assigned books to read. Anyway, somewhere along the line, I began to read less. Over the years I have gone…

5 Things In October
I canβt believe how fast October came and went! I love the cooler temps, fall colors, and fun Halloween decorations! It was a busy month filled with a birthday, a baby shower, and lots of fun get-togethers with friends. Here are a few highlights from our October! Jakeβs Birthday Jakeβs birthday was at the beginning of the month and this year I decided to gift him with some experiences. On Friday night we went on a dinner and movie date. We went to a wine bar for dinner then watched The Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix. On Saturday, we went and played mini-golf at a place near our house and then…

Wellbeing Goals That Are Not Based on Your Appearance or Weight
When we think of our wellbeing it is common for us to set goals that are centered around our aesthetics or the number on the scale. I put myself on my first diet at the age of 14 (read more of my journey here) because I was convinced the only way I could be happier or more attractive in high school was if I lost weight. Dieting was what I was “supposed” to do. The media is constantly telling us that we must shrink our bodies to fit in and social media has inundated us with images of women we think we need to look like in order to be…
