DIY Decor: Easy Mummy Lanterns

A few years ago, I did a really fun Mummy project with one of the columns on my porch! There are so many cool projects you can do featuring a mummy, and today’s project was inspired by something I saw over on Pinterest! The original inspiration post featured Ball jars and some white crepe streamers. I thought that was cute, but I imagined something a bit more sophisticated. So, I picked up some glass hurricanes from the thrift store and used leftover mummy mesh from that porch project. I already had the googly eyes on hand as well, so the cost was low for this project! Check out how I made these adorable lanterns below!

DIY Decor: Easy Mummy Lanterns

Supplies:

  • Glass Hurricanes (I thrifted mine but have gotten them at The Dollar Tree in the past)
  • Mummy Mesh (Here)
  • Googly Eyes (Here)
  • Hot glue gun & glue
  • Faux tealight candles

Method:

  1. Cut your Mummy mesh into strips. I got three strips with the width of my mesh.
  2. Put a dab of hot glue on your hurricane and lay one end of your mesh strip on top of it. This keeps it in place to make it easier to wrap your hurricane. Wrap your hurricane as many times as you wish and secure the end of the strip with another dab of hot glue, ideally on the same side of the hurricane jar as the first dab of glue.
  3. Hot glue the eyes to the “front” of the jar, the side without the dabs of glue.
  4. Fold a shorter strip of mesh in half and wrap part of it over the top of the eyes. Secure it on the back with some more dabs of hot glue. This gives the effect of the eyeballs protruding out of the mummy wrap.
  5. Add your favorite faux tealights and enjoy!
